SAN ANTONIO — The Wimberley Texans held a 49-0 lead over Orange Grove at halftime and coasted through the second half in the 4A Region IV Area round of playoffs on Friday, Nov. 17, at Schertz Clemens High School. The final score was 49-7, after the Bulldogs managed to finally get on the board in the fourth quarter.

Cody Stoever, the Texans’ quarterback, had finished his job by halftime and took a seat after completing 12 of 17 passes, with four of those for touchdowns, totaling 294 yards. Stoever also had eight carries for 132 yards and a touchdown. Caleb McCreless and Kyan McAtee filled in at quarterback, but only passed the ball three times in the second half.

“I like the way we set the tone early, got the game under control pretty quick and up at halftime were able to play a lot of kids,” head coach Doug Warren said after the game.

Noah Birdsong led receivers with eight receptions for 123 yards followed by Wynston Burttschell two for 99 yards and a touchdown, Nolan Waida two for 77 yards and two touchdowns, Parker Doss two for 10 yards and Ty Thames had a 4-yard touchdown catch. Chase Carson had 13 carries for 79 yards with consecutive touchdown runs of four yards and 16 yards in the second quarter.

“Everybody is good as you go deeper in the playoffs and the margin for error gets really, really small. We still have room for improvement,” Warren said.
