Wimberley captured their 25th bi-district championship in school history as the Texans defeated the Pearsall High School Mavericks 68-0 to advance to the area round.
The Texans racked up 400 yards of offense, including 224 yards on the ground on 22 carries while the Code Red Defense pitched their second shutout of the season.
Foiling the Mavericks attempt at an onside kick, the Texans on their first drive of the game used their punishing run game to score the first points of the game as quarterback Cody Stoever kept the ball on the read option and scored a 37-yard touchdown to put Wimberley up 7-0 following the PAT kick by Dail Hernandez.
The Code Red Defense forced the three and out on the Maverick offense on the next possession to give the ball back to the Texan offense.
Wimberley struck again on the next drive as Stoever hit wide receiver Noah Birdsong for a 41yard touchdown to put the Texans up 14-0.
Pearsall drove to inside the Wimberley 10-yard line on their next possession but faced third down with five yards left for the first down.
But the Code Red Defense came up with a bug momentum shifting play as linebacker Drew Brasher picked off the quarterback and returned the interception 83 yards for the touchdown as the Texans extended the lead to 20-0 following the muffed hold on the extra point kick.
After the Mavericks were forced to punt on their next drive, Wimberley scored once more as Stoever hit wide receiver Owen O’Neal on the screen pass scoring a 29-yard touchdown to go up 27-0.
As the teams entered the second quarter, the Code Red Defense forced their third punt of the game to give the ball back to the offense.
The Texans responded in kind as Stoever found Ty Thames on another screen pass for the 53-yard touchdown as Wimberley extended the lead to 34-0.
The Code Red Defense continued to roll over the Maverick offense as Pearsall was forced to punt for the third straight time.
Wimberley then added their sixth touchdown of the first half as Chase Carson scored on the 16 yard touchdown run to put the Texans up 40-0 as the wet conditions played havoc with the special teams leading to another muffed snap and hold.
Once again, the Code Red Defense asserted their will on the Maverick offense to force their fourth straight punt.
The Texan offense tacked on another score as running Colton Schimdt scored from 16 yards out to give Wimberley a 47-0 lead.
The Code Red Defense added their second touchdown of the night after Pearsall was pinned deep in their own end zone as the Texans forced the fumble before it was recovered by Bryson Young as Wimberley made it 54-0.
The second half saw the Texans second team offense come into the game and see success. Running backs Benji Olmedo and Josh Belanger both scored touchdowns as Wimberley cruised to a 68-0 win.
